Kate Winslet eyes directorial debut with new trailer for ‘Goodbye June’
Netflix releases first look at Kate Winslet’s directorial debut ‘Goodbye June’
Kate Winslet is stepping behind the camera for the Netflix-produced upcoming family drama, Goodbye June.
Playing double duty, the British star is also part of the film’s cast, which further includes Helen Mirren, Toni Collette, Timothy Spall, Stephen Merchant, and more.
The upcoming release seems to be a family affair off the screen as well, with Winslet directing a script penned by her son, Joe Anders.
According to a synopsis shared by PEOPLE, Goodbye June is set during Christmas and tells the story of an ailing family matriarch, whose illness sends their “exasperating father into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss.”
“But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms — with biting humor, blunt honesty and a lot of love,” the overview added.
While Winslet told the publication that for directing the film, she drew from her own experience with her mother’s death from cancer in 2017.
“I experienced the loss of a parent, and I have gone through the juggernaut of emotions that the siblings in ‘Goodbye June’ suddenly have to face,” she said.
