Cynthia Erivo steps in as fan rushes Ariana Grande at ‘Wicked: For Good’ premiere

Cynthia Erivo’s quick responds have made her the center of countless memes after she stepped in to protect close friend and co star Ariana Grande from an overly excited fan on Thursday.

The two actresses are traveling the world to promote their new film Wicked: For Good, the second of three planned spinoffs to The Wizard of Oz.

But during the Singapore premiere at Universal Studios as the things suddenly turned chaotic when a fan rushed toward Grande on the red carpet.

In a now-viral clip, the man can be seen diving at the Swindle actress and putting his arm around her as she tries to pull away.

Before security reacted, Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the film, jumped between her friend and the man, blocking him and appearing to shout at him as she pulled Grande to safety.

Fans praised Erivo online for stepping in so quickly as one person wrote, “Now THAT’S friendship. WOW. Pretty scary stuff but having a friend like that leap into action? I’m sensing a Bodyguard reboot! PS There was so much security. How did this even happen?”

Another added, “That’s a true friend. She didn’t even think for herself she sprung to protect.”

“Cynthia was Amazing! If she ever needs a job outside of Acting Security is her gig, a third fan joked.

More comments celebrated her “mama bear” energy and even called her a “6x threat… BODYGUARD.”

After security finally removed the man, a shaken Ariana Grande was seen being comforted by Cynthia Erivo, whose protective moment has now become a highlight of the film’s global press tour.
