Simu Liu is gearing up to return as Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Avengers: Doomsday.

While speaking to PEOPLE, the 36-year-old Canadian actor shared that reprising his role alongside iconic MCU stars he “grew up idolizing” is a moment he deeply values.

“It means everything,” he says, noting the impact Shang-Chi has had on both audiences and his own career. “It’s such a privilege to have played a character that resonated with so many different people.”

The Barbie star expressed deep gratitude to fans, saying he's "always gonna be beyond grateful" for their continuous support. nothing that they have helped advance his career. 

“And part of that is like getting to put the suit back on again, except with these incredible legendary actors, many of whom I grew up idolizing and worshiping,” Liu shared. “Now, I get to call them my co-workers.”

Avengers: Doomsday, set for release in December 2026, brings together a wide mix of returning heroes and new additions.

Robert Downey Jr. will return not as Iron Man, but as the movie’s main villain, Doctor Doom, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston and Letitia Wright.
