The White House has begun a formal review into Alibaba’s presence in the US after a national-security memo raised alarms about the company’s alleged ties to the Chinese military, according to cyber expert Christopher Krebs.

The move comes amid heightened geopolitical tension and growing scrutiny of how foreign tech platforms handle sensitive data.

As reported by the Financial Times, the memo claims the Chinese giant provided technology capabilities that the White House believes could threaten US interests.

It further alleges that Alibaba supplied Chinese authorities with access to customer information, including IP addresses, WiFi details, payment data, and AI-related tools.

However, Alibaba has strongly denied the allegations, calling them “completely false” and accusing unnamed sources of attempting to undermine recent diplomatic progress on trade.

The Chinese embassy in Washington echoed that stance, accusing the US of misrepresenting China’s data-handling practices and stressing that Beijing is strengthening AI-related privacy safeguards.

As the review unfolds, policymakers and security analysts say the probe could shape future US tech-security policies.
