Singer Todd Snider dies at 59 amid 'violent assault' investigation
Todd Snider, alt-country singer and songwriter’s legacy lives on as fans grieve his sudden loss
Todd Snider, the celebrated American artist known for hiswitty songwriting has unfortunately died at age 59.
His team confirmed the news on November 14, sharing that the singer-songwriter passed away one day earlier, following “severe injuries” sustained in an alleged assault earlier this month.
On November 15, his team penned a heartfelt message which was posted on his social media accounts.
“Aimless, Inc. Headquarters is heartbroken to share that our Founder, our Folk Hero, our Poet of the World, our Vice President of the Abrupt Change Dept., the Storyteller, our beloved Todd Daniel Snider has departed this world,” the note read.
The team continued, “Where do we find the words for the one who always had the right words, who knew how to distill everything down to its essence with words and song while delivering the most devastating, hilarious, and impactful turn of phrases?”
Snider, originally from Oregon, he relocated to Nashville in the 1990s, where he embraced life as a troubadour and “free spirit.”
Over the years, the singer learned from legendary figures including Jimmy Buffett and Billy Joe Shaver. His 2004 album East Nashville Skyline later became a defining project in the alt-country and Americana genres.
“He relayed so much tenderness and sensitivity through his songs, and showed many of us how to look at the world through a different lens,” the tribute noted, recognising his dedication to the craft and the influence of icons like Guy Clark, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson and Jerry Jeff Walker.
Earlier in November, the That Was Me singer was arrested in Salt Lake City and later revealed he was the “victim of a violent assault,” leading to the cancellation of his tour.
His team later shared that he had developed walking pneumonia and was struggling to breathe.
Fans and loved ones were asked to keep Todd Snider in their thoughts, “Say a prayer, light a candle, roll one up, send strength, or just keep him close in your heart.”
