George Oakley’s new adaption of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility is set to hit U.S. theaters on September 11, 2026, courtesy of Focus Features followed by a UK release on September 25.

The Working Title production, written by Diana Reid, features an impressive cast including Daisy Edgar-Jones, Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, George MacKay and Fiona Shaw.

Set in Georgian-era England, Austen’s beloved story centers on the Dashwood family, whose lives are upended when Mr. Dashwood dies leaving his wife and three daughters in financial distress.

Forced to relocate to a modest cottage, the two eldest daughters find themselves navigating romance, heartbreak and the search for genuine love as new suitors enter their lives.

Working Title and Focus previously collaborated on the acclaimed 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice and the 2020 film version of Emma.

Sense and Sensibility was last brought to the screen in 1995 by Sony Pictures Classics directed by Ang Lee with a screenplay by Emma Thompson, who also starred as Elinor Dashwood.

The film earned seven Oscar nominations including Thompson’s win for Best Adapted Screenplay and grossed over $134 million worldwide.

Focus holds global rights to the new films with UPI handling international distribution as the Studio’s fall state also includes Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, Song Sung Blue and the recent release of Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia.
