Met Gala 2026 will have Jeff Bezos and his wife as the event’s ‘primary donors’
According to latest reports, next year’s Met Gala will be bankrolled by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos.
In a major shift following Anna Wintour’s withdrawal as Vogue’s editor-in-chief, the first gala hosted by her successor, Chloe Malle, will utilise the services of the ultra wealthy couple.
According to PEOPLE, “On Monday, Nov. 17, the couple was announced as the primary donors funding the 2026 Met Gala.”
Previously, Vogue magazine had also featured Sánchez Bezos in a cover story mere days after her wedding to the Amazon founder in Venice. “Here comes the bride!” read the cover line for the publication’s June edition.
Meanwhile, the next Met ball will have “Costume Art” as its theme. Following its announcement, exhibition curator Andrew Bolton described the theme as “a huge moment for the Costume Institute.”
“It will be transformative for our department, but I also think it’s going to be transformative to fashion more generally — the fact that an art museum like The Met is actually giving a central location to fashion,” added Bolton.
While Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos will be joined by Saint Laurent and Condé Nast as Met Gala’s secondary benefactors. The fashion celebration is expected to be held during its usual slot, the first Monday in May 2026.
