Bill Gates gets final warning from Tesla CEO Elon Musk over shorting the stock
Bill Gates has received a final warning from Elon Musk
Bill Gates has received a final warning from Elon Musk after the Tesla CEO renewed his criticism of the billionaire’s long-running short position.
The tension between Musk and Bill Gates dates back several years, when Gates privately confirmed he was betting against Tesla, a move that deeply frustrated Musk.
According to reports, Gates had wagered around $500 million on Tesla shares falling, despite repeatedly praising Musk’s innovations in private conversations.
Musk, who later described his reaction as “super mean,” has never forgiven what he sees as a bet against the mission of Tesla.
The feud resurfaced after the Gates Foundation sold a major chunk of Microsoft stock, prompting Musk to publicly urge Gates to finally close the short.
The warning came just days after Tesla shareholders approved Musk’s massive compensation package and heard his renewed confidence in the company’s future projects.
While Tesla stock has risen more than 6% this year and soared nearly 150% over five years, Musk suggested Gates may face consequences if he continues holding the position.
Notably, Bill Gates has not publicly responded to Musk’s latest remarks, but the episode underscores a rivalry that continues to fascinate the tech world.
