Kate Winslet relives embarrassing first encounter with King Charles
King Charles left Kate Winslet panicking when the two first crossed paths
Kate Winslet took a trip down the memory lane during her latest talk show appearance to promote her directorial debut, Goodbye June, releasing December 12.
While discussing her recent appointment as an ambassador for The King’s Foundation on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Winslet recalled her first encounter with the then-Prince Charles at the 1996 premiere of Sense and Sensibility — when she was just 20.
Admitting that she hadn’t realised that she was “really going to meet” the King, the Titanic star revealed that she “forgot about the fact that I was wearing a kind of a transparent lace outfit.”
“And thank God I’d worn a coat because as he’s making his way towards me, I’m like, ‘Nipples. Nipples. Nipples. Oh my god!’” she hilariously added.
After being reminded by someone in the middle of her panic that she was indeed carrying a coat, Winslet shared that she covered herself with the garment and went, “Your majesty.”
The 50-year-old actress has since greatly mended her reputation with King Charles, meeting and collaborating with the British sovereign on multiple occasions.
Most recently, Kate Winslet had attended the annual King’s Foundation awards ceremony alongside other A-listers like Meryl Streep and David Beckham in June. While she was announced as the narrator for an upcoming documentary about one of his projects, Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision.
