Sam Raimi teamed up with the writers behind Freddy vs. Jason and the 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th, for his upcoming movie.

According to Raimi himself, fans should brace for something wild, because Send Help is shaping up to be every bit as outrageous as you would expect from a collaboration with Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

Speaking with Empire Online this week, the filmmaker revealed his initial reaction to hearing the concept.

He said, “[Damian Shannon and Mark Swift] pitched the story and I laughed and couldn’t believe they were doing this.” He goes on to emphasize just how bold the project is, admitting, “It was really outrageous, even for me, who makes outrageous horror films.”

Though Raimi acknowledges that Send Help shares a faint resemblance to The Evil Dead as he stresses that this new film explores an entirely different kind of terror.

The 66-year-old explained, “There is a similarity, but it’s not some outside force they’re dealing with here. What they’re coming to terms with is who they really are. And as the layers start shedding, we see certain conflicts emerge.”

Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien lead the cast of Send Help and it will arrive in theaters on January 30, 2026.

The synopsis of the film, “Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams) and Bradley Preston (Dylan O’Brien) [who] are two colleagues who find themselves stranded on a deserted island after they are the only survivors of a plane crash. They must overcome past grievances and work together to survive but ultimately, it is an unsettling and darkly humorous battle of wills and wits to make it out alive.”

Combination of psychological tension with dark humour, Send Help is expected to deliver a uniquely twisted survival tale, one that promises a fresh flavour of horror from one of the genre’s most iconic filmmakers.
