Zach Bryan reveals two months sober after major life stress
Zach Bryan credits therapy for helping him regain stability
Zach Bryan is opening up about his mental health and revealing that he’s now two months sober from alcohol.
The 29-year-old singer shared the update in an Instagram post on Tuesday, Nov. 18, explaining that he decided to stop drinking after taking a 20 day solo motorcycle trip across the country.
“At the end of this ride, I was sitting in a parking lot in Seattle, Washington thinking 'I really need some f------ help," the Sun to Me singer wrote.
Bryan reflected on how a decade in the military followed by sudden fame affected him more than he realised.
"Being in the military for a decade and then thrown into a spotlight that I hadn't fully comprehended the scope of, had some subconscious effects on me as a person," he continued, adding that he feared showing any weakness.
Bryan admitted he often turned to alcohol to fill what he called a “consistent black hole” inside him, saying he wasn’t drinking for pleasure but to cope with "perpetual discontent."
The Revival hitmaker also said being "lied about" and "doxxed on the internet" triggered "earth-shattering panic attacks," leaving him overwhelmed despite his success.
Bryan shared that then he decided to seek therapy to address his "toxic relationship with booze" and learn to handle major life changes.
The Hey Driver crooner added that he has not had a drink in nearly two months, writing, "I needed to see the world objectively."
He credited his family for supporting him throughout the process and now, he says he feels better than he has in a long time, "I feel great. I feel content. I feel whole."
Zach Bryan ended his message by urging others who are struggling to ask for help, reminding them that "the most stubborn dumbass on the planet did and doesn't regret it."
