The Duchess of Sussex shares how she navigated royal life and the pressures that came with it
Meghan Markle has recently broken her long-overdue silence on royal life, seven years after stepping back.
In a conversation with Harper’s Bazaar for its December 2025/January 2026 Art Issue, the Duchess of Sussex reflected on the pressures she faced after entering the global spotlight.
"I think my boundaries became stronger once I came into the public eye in this very…" Meghan stopped briefly and laughed.
The mother of two continued, "I could think of any adjective to fill the blank. And it would probably work. You find different ways to protect yourself, whether that’s self-preservation or it’s just growing up."
The remark appeared to reference how quickly Meghan rose to fame after she began dating Prince Harry in 2016 and later married him in 2018.
It is worth noting that the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Since then, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have embarked on a new chapter in California, where they are raising their children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4.
