'House of the Dragon’ makers drop bombshell news
House of the Dragon, HBO’s Targaryen focused Game of Thrones is getting a thrilling spin off.
According to Variety, the series has been a thrilling return to Westeros across its first two seasons.
While the third season is set to debut in 2026 and there is even more prequel content on the horizon.
The series, follows the Targaryen family 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, stars Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke and Matt Smith.
HBO has also renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for a second season which will premiere in 2027 as the series based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, will launch its first season in January 2026.
“We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe,” said Francesca Orsi, HBO’s head of drama series.
“Together, ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, ‘House of the Dragon’ is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet,” she added.
While adaptations of Martin’s books continue to evolve on screen, fans are still waiting for the conclusion of his A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Notably, Game of Thrones ran out of books after season 5, completing the remaining seasons based on Martin’s outline for the final novels while taking some creative rights with the plot.
House of the Dragon has officially been renewed for a fourth season with plans to release it in 2028.
