Leighton Meester, Jared Padalecki set to star in a romantic comedy
A Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl crossover is seemingly in the works!
It has been reported Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) and Jared Padalecki (Gilmore Girls) will be starring in a Netflix holiday rom-com based on The Bodyguard, the bestselling novel by Katherine Center.
Stars like the My Life with the Walter Boys actor Noah LaLonde, Andie MacDowell from Groundhog Day, country star Walker Hayes, and Toby Sandeman from Running Point are also involved in the upcoming Netflix production.
The novel which was published in recent years, narrated the story of a no-nonsense bodyguard tasked with protecting a charismatic action star over the holidays.
But what starts as a professional assignment soon turns complicated as the festive season becomes chaotic when secrets come to light.
Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum is set to direct the movie based on the 2022 book, with a script from Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith.
"I began paying close attention to BookTok culture around the success of my last Netflix Film, Purple Hearts," Elizabeth stated in a statement.
Continuing, "The overwhelming enthusiasm on social media and with readers for Katherine Center’s novel was a major factor in my decision to come on board as director."
"Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki are perfect as our leads, and I know audiences are going to love seeing them on screen together," she added.
Although the novel is originally titled The Bodyguard, Leighton, Jared and the author herself Katherine have asked fans to pitch new title ideas since there is already "an iconic film" out there.
"Getting ready to head into production, and I’m incredibly excited to be teaming up with Netflix on this one," the Supernatural alum penned in the caption.
