Meghan Markle sparks reactions after revealing she invited herself to star-studded event

Meghan Markle came under fire after she revealed in a recent interview that she had showed up at Paris Fashion Week by inviting herself.

In her Harper’s Bazaar cover feature, the 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex gave a rare glimpse into her life, business pursuits and much more.

She unexpectedly turned up in France during Paris Fashion Week this October, attending Balenciaga’s show before heading to the after-party.

As per her team, the purpose of her Paris trip was to support Pierpaolo Piccioli, the brand’s newly appointed creative director, calling it "her first time back to the shows in over a decade."

However, the designer surprised many Royal fans when he revealed that Meghan had actually invited herself.

"Meghan and I met some years ago, and we've been texting ever since. She reached out and said she'd love to come to the show. There was no strategy or big orchestration," he revealed to The Cut.

Continuing, "I didn't tell anyone she was coming because I wanted it to stay a surprise. In fashion, real surprises are rare, and this one was beautiful.”

This was confirmed by the Duchess during her chat with Harper’s Bazaar, saying, "I was excited for him (Mr Piccioli). I reached out and I said, 'Happy to come and support you.' We kept it a secret, and it was really fun.”

Fans couldn’t help but find humour in Meghan’s comments and stormed social media with their opinions.

Taking to X, a user penned, "The Paris Fashion Week Self-Invitation Confessional, truly the pinnacle of self-awareness… if self-awareness were dead.”

"Markle’s clinging to that royal title like a lifeline, desperate 2 stay relevant,” another remarked.

"If Balenciaga’s lead designer had not revealed it, she wouldn’t have admitted it.” a third said.
