Kate Middleton’s Royal Variety Performance look: Designer behind velvet gown comes out

Kate Middleton had stepped out in a green velvet gown for the Royal Variety Performance on November 19, her return to the annual ceremony for the first time since 2023.

While she dazzled the onlookers with her latest evening look, it was not quite known who the designer behind the Princess of Wales’ velvet creation was — until now.

Talbot Runhof, the fashion house founded in 1992, was revealed as the gown’s creator and co-founder Adrian Runhof has now addressed the royal endorsement.

“Our name and our dress have been posted worldwide, so we are very thankful to her,” he told PEOPLE. “We think she is great, we respect her, and it’s a great honour for us that she picked this dress, that she obviously liked it enough to buy it and select it for the event last night.”

Runhof also shared that Kate’s ensemble is not part of any latest collections and went on to wonder if she may have bought it years prior.

“I think she bought it a few seasons ago and found it in her wardrobe and thought, ‘Why don’t I wear this? It’s so beautiful,” the German-born designer said.

It was further disclosed that Buckingham Palace had only notified Talbot Runhof about “30 minutes before” Kate Middleton’s appearance on Wednesday that she had chosen to wear a look from their company.
