Liza Minnelli’s half sister, Lorna Luft has offered fans a rare update on the legendary performer, who has been living a more private life in recent years due to ongoing health challenges.

Despite stepping back from the spotlight as Minnelli is reportedly in good spirits and staying connected with those close to her.

The 73-year-old actress and singer told E! News during the Red Diamond 95th Anniversary Gala in New York City, “She is great.”

Luft also shared that the iconic Cabaret star is currently residing in Los Angeles, adding that the sisters remain close despite the distance.

She also said, “We talk on the phone a lot, because I live back in New York. So, everything’s really, really, great.”

Both Minnelli and the Grease 2 star are daughters of the late Hollywood legend Judy Garland, though they have different fathers, Minnelli’s being acclaimed director Vincente Minnelli.

The American actress-singer’s last major public appearance came in October 2025 at the Dancers Against Cancer Gala, where she presented the Icon of the Year award to Janet Jackson.

Although she skipped the red carpet but made a dramatic entrance at the show, seated on a grand velvet throne as jazz dancers performed around her.

For the unversed, the four-time Tony winner has faced significant health struggles over the years.

In 2000, she was diagnosed with viral encephalitis and was later found unconscious at her Fort Lauderdale home with symptoms linked to the illness.

Liza Minnelli’s health continued to weaken after an attack of bronchial pneumonia in 2010 and another undisclosed condition in 2014 leading her to cancel performances and reduce public engagements.
