Kendrick Lamar and 'South Park' creators face major delay for new film
Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Kendrick Lamar keep live action comedy under wraps
Kendrick Lamar and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are keeping fans waiting on their mysterious live action comedy.
Paramount has removed the untitled film from its March 20 release date, delaying it indefinitely as the project undergoes further work.
“It’s true – we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie,” read a joint statement from Stone and Parker’s production company Park County and Lamar’s pgLang.
The film has faced multiple delays. When first announced in 2024, it was slated for a July 4, 2025 release, timed for the Independence Day holiday.
Three months out, Paramount pushed it to March 20, 2026 and now, four months before that date, the studio has postponed it again without a new release target.
Moreover, details about the live-action project are rare. No cast members or plot have been revealed.
The film is written by comedian Vernon Chatman with Lamar, Parker and Stone serving as producers alongside Dave Free for pgLang.
Lamar is currently riding high after earning nine nominations for the 2026 Grammys, leading the field thanks to his acclaimed album GNX and single Luther. His track Not Like Us took home two of last year’s top three awards at the Grammys.
Meanwhile, Trey Parker and Matt Stone continue to work on the Trump-skewering South Park season 28, which airs new episodes on Comedy Central every Wednesday.
