Former English footballer gets candid about his love for gardening
Sir David Beckham has revealed he’s teaming up with renowned horticulturist and TV presenter Frances Tophill to bring a stunning new garden concept to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
As an ambassador for the King’s Foundation, the 50-year-old former professional footballer will be taking on a key role to support the Royal Horticultural Society’s vision for the garden.
The RHS and The King’s Foundation Curious Garden is designed to inspire curiosity, inviting visitors to explore the joys of gardening and highlights how gardening enriches lives, showcasing plants’ powerful impact on our well being and the world around us.
Taking to social media, the English star got candid about his love for gardening, saying, "My love for the countryside started when I was a child visiting my grandparents."
Continuing, "I’ve experienced how rewarding gardening can be and that’s why I’m looking forward to working with The RHS and The King’s Foundation on their Curious Garden at the 2026 RHS Chelsea Flower Show."
“I hope we inspire people to get outside into nature and to try something new," he added.
Reflecting on the announcement, Tophill also expressed her excitement about the project, sharing, "I’m thrilled to be working with everyone involved to bring my first Chelsea garden to life and really explore my own curiosity about plants and their vital role in bringing health to people and to the planet.”
