Cynthia Erivo boards ‘Othello’ following ‘Wicked’ sequel’s success
Cynthia Erivo is currently appearing in ‘Wicked: For Good’
Cynthia Erivo will appear in Othello, produced by the longtime James Bond producer, Barbara Broccoli.
The feature was recently announced in Qatar, the state which will also fund the project based on Shakespeare’s famous work, with filming set to take place in “the Gulf territory in the autumn of 2026,” per Deadline.
“Broccoli and Nicky Bentham are producing for EON Productions with Oyelowo for Yoruba Studios and in partnership with Qatar’s Doha-based Katara Studios, which is co-financing the feature,” the outlet further noted.
Erivo will join David Oyelowo and Rachel Brosnahan onscreen, with Oyelowo also set to direct the film. While the British actor will play the titular role, Erivo will appear as Iago’s wife Emilia, with Brosnahan as Desdemona.
Barbara Broccoli had previously produced a New York theatre production of Othello, also starring David Oyelowo and Rachel Brosnahan in the roles which they will reprise for the upcoming film production.
Meanwhile, the Cynthia Erivo-starrer Wicked: For Good is currently reigning at the box office. Also starring Ariana Grande and released November 21, the sequel is projected to rake in $151.5 million during the opening weekend spell.
