Rupert Grint admits he may never fully step out of the shadow of the character that made him a household name.

The 37-year-old actor, who played Ron Weasley in all eight Harry Potter films, spoke to the BBC about life after the wizarding franchise.

“It’s quite strange to have the cycle happening again,” Grint said, referencing the upcoming Harry Potter TV series.

He revealed he even wrote a letter to the child actor set to play Ron in the new adaptation.

Grint, along with co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, rose to fame between 2001 and 2011, when the big-screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books captured audiences worldwide.

Cast at age 11, Grint called the experience “crazy” and said it “changed my whole life quite quickly.”

Despite challenges in moving beyond Ron compared with Radcliffe and Watson, Grint said he has no regrets about the role.

“I don’t think I’ll ever quite step out of his shadow, but I’m fine with that,” he said.

“It has a quite deep meaning to a lot of people… It gives me a lot of pride. It was such a huge thing,” the actor concluded.
