Despite their glamorous appearances and wealthy status, even notable celebrities in Hollywood struggle with devastating conditions like Anorexia nervosa.
Anorexia nervosa, often just called anorexia, is a serious eating disorder where people severely limit their food intake.
It leads to significant weight loss and potential health issues, fear of gaining weight, distorted body image, obsession with food, calories, and weight, and even singers and actors.
Here are some celebrities who have struggled with anorexia:
1. Taylor Swift
Swift has been open about her struggles with anorexia, and even shared her experiences in her Netflix documentary, Miss Americana.
The Fate of Ophelia singer revealed that she developed disordered eating habits as a way to cope with the pressures of fame and the constant scrutiny of her body.
The fiancé of Travis Kelce explained that she would restrict her food intake and exercise excessively, often feeling like she was supposed to feel faint or dizzy during performances.
2. Ariana Grande
The 32-year-old singer-actress has been subject to speculation about her health and potential eating disorders, particularly anorexia since the release of her new movie Wicked.
In 2022, Grande stated in a TikTok video that the version of her being compared to was actually her "unhealthiest" body, when she was on a lot of antidepressants and eating poorly at the lowest point of her life.
She has asked for public gentleness and empathy, noting that "the other person is never truly aware of what an individual is going through."
3. Zoë Kravitz
Kravitz opened up about her struggle with overcoming anorexia, saying, “I feel like something has left my body, like some part of me is gone now, something that was making me so insecure. And it feels amazing.”
4. Lily Collins
The Emily in Paris actress has suffered from an eating disorder for years, which involved restricting her food intake, binging and purging, and using laxatives and diet pills.
The 36-year-old actress told Shape in 2017 that it’s something that a lot of young women go through and there’s no shame in it.
5. Zayn Malik
The former member of the boy band One Direction, the Night Changes hitmaker revealed his struggle with anxiety and an eating disorder.
Malik revealed in his autobiography, Zayn, that he would go days without eating, sometimes going two or three days straight without food.
According to the ex-boyfriend of Gigi Hadid, he attributed his eating disorder to a control issue, and he felt like he had lost control over other aspects of his life
His struggle took a toll on his health, causing significant weight loss and anxiety, however, the father of one with the support of his mother was able to recover and regain control over his eating habits.
