Ryan Murphy’s early 2000 series offers exploration of complexities surrounding plastic surgery and beauty
Ryan Murphy revisited the concept of Nip/Tuck, his popular series about plastic surgery and the modern shift in plastic surgery.
The American Horror Story filmmaker, during a panel at New York Comic Con for his upcoming series The Beauty, looked back at the early 2000s show that offers exploration of complexities surrounding plastic surgery and beauty.
The 59-year-old director began, "I remember, back in the day, one of my first big shows was a show called Nip/Tuck that was about plastic surgery, and I was amazed at how taboo it was to talk about it.
“With every passing month, there seems to be less and less and less and less judgment about Semaglutides [a medication to treat type 2 diabetes and for chronic weight management] and plastic surgery."
Murphy went on to say, "People changed their bodies, and they got in public and acted like nothing had changed. That was how you did it back then."
According to the Emmy winner, it is kind of a new status symbol in a weird way.
In the end, the Pose director said, "Now I think people sort of flaunt it more and are talking about it. It's an evolution in some strange way."
On the professional front, Ryan Murphy helmed The Beauty is expected to premiere in January 2026.
