Scarlett Johansson breaks silence on supporting Woody Allen amid allegations
Woody Allen was accused by his adopted daughter for sexually abusing her
Scarlett Johansson has finally broken her long-held silence about her decision to support American filmmaker Woody Allen despite sexual allegations against him.
In a recent interview with UK’s Telegraph, the 41-year-old actress, who has worked with the 90-year-old director three times, opened up about her friendship with him.
Johansson shared that she never believed the allegations against Allen and has continued to support him unwaveringly.
“You never know what the domino effect is, exactly. But my mom always encouraged me to be myself, [to see] that it’s important to have integrity, and it’s important to stand up for what you believe in,” she explained.
While talking about Woody, the Black Widow star noted that it’s “also important to know when it’s not your turn”.
“I don’t mean that you should silence yourself. I mean sometimes it’s just not your time,” she stated.
Johansson added, “And that’s something I’ve understood more as I’ve matured.”
However, she admitted that supporting Allen has come at a cost to her career in Hollywood.
Notably, in a 2019 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Lucy actress publicly defended the Annie Hall director.
“I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime,” she said at the time, adding, “I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it.”
For those unaware, Woody Allen was accused by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, of sexually abusing her when she was seven years old in 1992, an allegation he has vehemently denied.
