Kim Kardashian’s latest look linked to her old cultural appropriation scandal
Kim Kardashian shares new look from her appearance on ‘All’s Fair’ tv series
Kim Kardashian recently showed off the new look for Allura Grant, her character on the Ryan Murphy-created show All’s Fair, and it is straight out of the cultural appropriation controversy she had once run into.
Decked out in a pink kimono with chocolate brown accents and the shoes to match, the Kardashians star debuted the look for her Instagram audience.
The caption for the post, which featured multiple shots of the SKIMS founder, was simply captioned, “AlluraGrant”.
Kim was joined by her frequent collaborator, Murphy, in the newly shared snaps. While her kimono was custom-made by Milligan Beaumont, who specialises in Japanese-inspired designs, sharing it through her Instagram page.
The 45-year-old socialite’s latest kimono look recalls the time when she had gotten into trouble over initially announcing her shapewear line’s name after the traditional Japanese clothing.
According to the Daily Mail, Kim had made the announcement “in the weeks leading up to the launch of her brand half a decade ago”, while “she was forced to” clarify that “she would be dropping the brand name Kimono following fierce backlash and accusations of cultural insensitivity.”
Though the celebrity entrepreneur had originally refused to back down, she finally surrendered after the relentless backlash further resulted in the release of a public letter from the former Kyoto mayor, Daisaku Kadokawa, “urging the reality star to ‘reconsider’ the name”.
“My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon. Thank you for your understanding and support always,” she had explained in an official statement at the time.
Kim Kardashian launched SKIMS in September 2019, while she is currently appearing in Ryan Murphy’s legal drama All’s Fair, which releases weekly episodes. The Hulu show’s next episode will be released on December 2, while its finale is set to air on December 9.
