Jamie Lee Curtis celebrates ‘My Girl’ with nostalgic song performance
Jamie Lee Curtis brings the beloved ‘My Girl’ cast together for fun Instagram post
Jamie Lee Curtis gave fans a major dose of nostalgia by shining a spotlight on the beloved '90s movie My Girl.
The throwback featured then-young stars Anna Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin, reigniting the magic of the coming of age romantic comedy drama.
Released in November 1991, My Girl captured audiences’ hearts with its touching story and devastating twist. 34 years later, the award winning actress took her followers back with a nostalgic blast as she shared a playful video of the cast performing the film’s iconic song on Instagram.
Chlumsky took lead vocals, delivering a humorous twist on the lyrics, “He’s got so many allergies, the bees or the bees.” Culkin played drums while Curtis joined on tambourine with Dan Aykroyd on guitar, creating a fun and heartwarming jam session.
Curtis wrote in the caption, “Yes, you can add songwriter to my credits. My Girl's original title was Born Jaundiced. Also, I Am Woman and Veda!”
She explained the inspiration for the music video and her character Shelly DeVoto’s scene at the mortuary, “I convinced the rest of the cast that we could go shoot this in a little studio and sweet Anna recorded it in a little sound booth.”
The Freaky Friday star added, “I thought I was the only one with a copy of this. It was a crew gift that we gave to the wonderful group of people that came together to make that wonderful movie. How fun to see you today. The hot pants outfit was rejected by our director Howard Zeiff and he was so right that it was wrong for Shelley to wear for her interview at the mortuary, but I got to wear it for the little video shoot.”
Fans flooded the post with emotional responses, with one writing, “Oh great, now I’m crying,” and another adding, “Love this movie but definitely need the Kleenex close by when watching!”
Jamie Lee Curtis reflected in a recent interview, “This is emotional for me because they were so young… I loved My Girl. That was another beautiful, unexpected, beautiful little bit of work and a wonderful character that I got to play.”
My Girl was a box office hit, grossing over $120 million and spawning a sequel, My Girl 2, in 1994.
