GM Energy sets bold vision to transform the future of EV charging across the US
GM Energy is accelerating its nationwide push to reshape EV charging in the US
GM Energy is setting an ambitious course to redefine the EV experience in the US, positioning itself as one of the most influential players in America’s fast-evolving clean-mobility landscape.
In its new vision, the company has outlined how an integrated ecosystem, spanning solar panels, home batteries, and bidirectional charging tech, can reinvent how drivers power both their homes and their electric vehicles.
Founded in 2022, GM Energy has steadily expanded its US footprint by providing clean energy tools designed to help households generate, store, and deploy power more efficiently.
Its Ultium Home systems allow EV owners to turn their vehicles into mobile power stations, storing excess solar energy and even feeding it back into the grid.
According to GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer, this model is central to creating a future where Americans “lower the total cost of ownership” while earning energy credits from utility programs.
Early pilot programmes in California show the concept in action, as GM Energy works closely with utilities to test real-world bidirectional charging at scale.
While nationwide rollout will take time, GM Energy believes this EV-to-grid approach could transform the broader US charging landscape, ultimately making EV ownership more affordable, more efficient, and more sustainable.
