Diddy lashes out at Netflix documentary for using his unauthorised ‘footage’
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs' Netflix documentary debuts on December 2
Sean “Diddy” Combs recently lashed out at Netflix for using his unauthorised "footage" in its documentary based on the disgraced rapper.
For the unversed, the streaming giant is set to release a new documentary titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, helmed by 50 Cent, on its platform.
Now, according to TMZ, the 56-year-old rapper’s spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, Combs has expressed displeasure over Netflix “inappropriately using footage that he has been accumulating since he was a teenager”.
His spokesperson said that "Netflix's so-called" documentary is a shameful hit piece which confirms that Netflix relied on stolen footage that was never authorized for release".
According to Engelmayer, the footage should have been reserved for the imprisoned to "tell his own story, in his own way”.
"If Netflix cared about truth or about Mr. Combs's legal rights, it would not be ripping private footage out of context — including conversations with his lawyers that were never intended for public viewing," Englemayer said, adding in the end that “no rights in that material were ever transferred to Netflix or any third party”.
However, Netflix-run publication Tudum, along with the documentary director Alexandria Stapleton cleared the air about the footage saying, "It came to us, we obtained the footage legally and have the necessary rights."
Netflix highly anticipated four-part docuseries is said to focus on the rise and fall of the Bad Boy Records founder.
It’s worth mentioning here that Sean “Diddy” Combs’ documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning is set to premiere on Netflix on December 2, 2025.
