Kate Hudson, Hugh Jackman earn Gotham Musical Tribute for 'Song Sung Blue'
Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson reveal what they learned from working together at 2025 Gotham Awards
Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman kicked off awards season in New York City with a major honour for their new film Song Sung Blue.
The co-stars appeared at the 2025 Gotham Awards on Monday, December 1, where they accepted the ceremony’s first ever Gotham Musical Tribute for their roles.
They played Mike and Claire Sardina in the new movie, a married couple who created the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder in the 1980s.
On the red carpet, the longtime stars reflected on what they learned from working together.
The Almost famous star told PEOPLE about her costar “Hugh, his superpower is to connect, whether it's on stage, whether it's on set, whether it's with anyone and everyone — he just wants to connect and he wants to make sure that everyone's happy. I learned that one of the great gifts you can give people is that you actually have a desire to connect to them.”
She added, “I think you give that to everybody — even though I'm sure it takes a lot from you. You're like a masseuse who's constantly giving energy to other people, and needs energy for you.”
While Hugh Jackman was equally admiring, “I learned a lot from Kate. I learned about acting on film, actually. I've done almost 50 films, but, somehow, working with Kate — it's a very difficult thing to describe but the mixture of being prepared and just being instinctive is a really fine line and no one does it better than Kate Hudson.”
Moreover, Kate Hudson's performance in the new musical film is getting Oscar buzz as awards season begins. “You never know with these things… And just, you know, show up to where they tell me to go," she said.
For the unversed, the duo starrer Song Sung Blue film is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2025.
