Sabrina Carpenter is clearing the air once and for all regarding the intense backlash her Man’s Best Friend cover art received.

In a new cover story for Variety’s Hitmakers Issue, the 26-year-old pop icon was asked about the controversy over her seventh album‘s cover art, which featured her on her hands and knees as an unidentified man grabbed her hair.

“It was about how people try to control women, and how I felt emotionally yanked around by these relationships that I had, and how much power you’re allowing yourself to give them," Carpenter revealed.

She emphasised that although she had a clear meaning in mind, she could see why others interpreted it differently.

“It meant one thing to me and 100 things to other people… That’s valid. Mine’s valid,” the Manchild hitmaker noted.

She added that certain criticisms raised “great points,” despite not aligning with her original message.

However, regardless of the scrutiny, Man’s Best Friend debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, a milestone Carpenter described as “the most beautiful reception.”

It is worth noting that Sabrina Carpenter just concluded her headline-grabbing Short n’ Sweet tour on November 23, 2025, with its final show in Los Angeles.
