Matthew Perry’s case has taken a major new turn as the court delivered a significant development in the investigation surrounding his tragic death.

According to the BBC, Dr Salvador Plasencia, a California doctor who pleaded guilty to supplying ketamine to the late Friends star, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.

With this update, he becomes the first person to receive a sentence in Perry’s overdose death.

The actor’s family urged the judge to impose a lengthy sentence, calling Plasencia the “most culpable” and expressing their struggle to fathom why he kept supplying him drugs.

Perry’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, was among several family members who spoke in court ahead of the doctor’s sentencing.

She referenced text messages included in the court documents showing Plasencia calling Perry a “moron” and wondering how much he would pay for the drugs.

"There was nothing moronic about that man," Morrison said, while becoming emotional, adding that the doctor took an oath to protect people and he should have protected her son.

For the unversed, Matthew Perry, who breathed his last at the age of 54, was found dead at his Los Angeles home in 2023 after years of battling addiction and depression.
