Nationwide CEO Kirt Walker has announced that Michael Carrel will serve as the company's new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Carrel succeeds Jim Fowler, who is moving to Lumen Technologies as Chief Technology and Product Officer starting in January 2026.
This leadership change comes as the Fortune 100 company prepares to enter its centennial year.
Walker expressed confidence in the appointment, stating that Carrel brings deep business and technology experience to the role.
Walker emphasised that Carrel will be a strong champion for enterprise adoption of AI and other new technologies, which is crucial for delivering on Nationwide's vision to be the most trusted and customer-focused protection company.
Notably, Carrel possesses more than three decades of experience within Nationwide Technology.
Most recently, he held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Nationwide Financial, where he oversaw all technology solutions supporting the company's financial services businesses.
A distinguished alumnus of Bowling Green State University and the University of Dayton, Carrel's expertise is further recognised by his recent designation as the Ohio ORBIE Awards Large Enterprise CIO of the Year.
Walker concluded by acknowledging Fowler’s many contributions during his seven years with the company, wishing him success in his future endeavours.
