Meghan Markle still has some fond memories from her time spent in the UK, according to an anecdote from her Netflix show’s special episode, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration.

While conversing with her friend and restaurateur Will Guidara onscreen, the Duchess of Sussex explained the British love of crackers.

“Living in the UK, it's a big part of the culture for sure,” she reflected. “Typically, people cross their arms and do it. So they sit around the table and they all pull at the same time. The way that I started to know them was, they’d always have some sort of fortune cookie-size joke or riddle. And something sweet.”

Following the brief, but heartfelt, mention of her life in the UK, royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror that it was “nice to hear”.

“It’s nice to hear her reminisce quite fondly about at least part of her time in the UK,” she said. “I don’t think she’s sending out any particular message by talking about Christmas crackers at the dinner table, but it’s good to know that there were at least moments in her life as part of the royal family that she enjoyed.”

While reflecting on Prince Harry’s appearance in the holiday special, Bond continued, “I think it would be rather odd if Harry hadn’t made an appearance in a show that’s all about family and fun at Christmas.”

“He only shows up briefly, but I think it’s an indication that he’s fully supportive of Meghan’s new career and proud of what she’s achieved,” she added.

With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, hosted by Meghan Markle, was released by Netflix on December 3. The episode’s premiere shortly followed the launch of As Ever’s debut festive collection.
