A major development has stunned the tech world as OpenAI has hired Slack CEO Denise Dresser as its new chief revenue officer, marking one of the AI company’s most high-profile additions yet.

In a press release, the AI startup confirmed that Dresser will now oversee OpenAI’s global revenue strategy across enterprise operations and customer success, as the company prepares for its next phase of commercial expansion.

Dresser, who previously spent more than a decade at Salesforce before becoming Slack’s CEO in 2023, noted that she is eager to bring her experience scaling major tech platforms into OpenAI’s rapidly evolving ecosystem.

For those unversed, Slack, acquired by Salesforce for over $27 billion, became one of the most widely used workplace communication tools, a background OpenAI believes will be critical as it pushes deeper into enterprise AI.

The move comes as ChatGPT maker continues its explosive growth. The AI startup recently revealed it is on track to surpass a $20 billion annualised revenue run rate, with ambitions to hit hundreds of billions by 2030.

However, with rising pressure from rivals such as Google and Anthropic, and more than $1.4 trillion already committed to infrastructure, OpenAI needs strong commercial leadership.

In her new role, Dresser will help businesses worldwide integrate AI into everyday workflows, reinforcing OpenAI’s mission to make powerful tools like ChatGPT accessible across all industries.
