Amazon has announced a $35 billion India investment targeting major AI development, marking one of the company’s most ambitious global commitments yet.

The announcement was made at the Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi, where the tech giant revealed that the new investment will supercharge India’s artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud ecosystem.

In a press release, Amazon stated that the $35 billion will specifically support AI-driven digitisation, export expansion, and large-scale job creation, areas that align closely with India’s national technology priorities.

This fresh commitment builds on nearly $40 billion Amazon has already invested in the country over the past decade.

According to Amazon, the plan is projected to generate one million new jobs across various sectors by 2030, quadruple exports to $80 billion, and bring AI tools and benefits to 15 million small businesses.

Industry experts have noted that India is now one of the fastest-growing AI markets in the Asia Pacific, but a major gap remains in compute infrastructure, an area Amazon Web Services is aggressively expanding.

The announcement also follows Microsoft’s recently unveiled $17.5 billion AI investment in India, highlighting the intensifying competition among Big Tech companies to dominate the region’s digital economy.

The company also added that it aims to “democratise AI access” and remain a central force in shaping India’s next phase of technological transformation.
