Following a statement from Meghan Markle aides, which called out the Daily Mail for making her efforts to reach Thomas Markle “exceedingly difficult”, the media group is fighting the claims made against them.

While reporting the news about the Duchess of Sussex’s letter reaching her estranged father in the Philippines, a spokesperson said, “Given that a Daily Mail reporter has remained at her father’s bedside throughout, broadcasting each interaction and breaching clear ethical boundaries, it has been exceedingly difficult for the Duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days.”

“With the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands,” the statement added.

Caroline Graham, the Mail’s journalist and Thomas Markle’s friend, was subsequently defended by her company against the Sussex team’s claims.

“When Thomas Markle was taken ill in the Philippines he contacted Caroline Graham and asked her to travel from LA to be with him,” the publisher’s representative told GB News.

“As well as being a journalist, Caroline has been friends with Mr. Markle since 2018,” it was added. “She has been with Mr. Markle in hospital every day, providing him with care and support.”

The Daily Mail’s statement further shared that Caroline Graham only reported Thomas Markle’s “contact details, the name of his hospital, and his room number to be provided to his daughter’s spokesman” after he had clearly consented to her doing so.

“It is entirely untrue that each interaction has been broadcast, and the suggestion that Caroline has breached ethical boundaries is demonstrably false and vehemently denied,” the message concluded.

Previously, Meghan Markle’s team had confirmed that she had “reached out” to her father following his surgery on December 3. However, Thomas Markle denied the claims and admitted to feeling “confused” by them since the e-mail address he was contacted at is no longer in his use.
