Daytona State launches new aerospace technology degree program

Daytona State College (DSC) is launching a new Associate of Science in Aerospace Technology program beginning in the spring semester, a curriculum developed in close consultation with leading industry partners, including NASA, Blue Origin, and Northrop Grumman.

This initiative is designed to address the soaring demand for skilled technicians within the rapidly expanding aerospace sector.

Students enrolling in the programme will receive comprehensive, hands-on training essential for modern aerospace manufacturing.

The curriculum includes instruction in aircraft structure fabrication using advanced composite materials, the building and testing of complex mechanical systems, and working with analog and digital devices.

Furthermore, students will gain vital expertise in wiring and troubleshooting electrical circuits and electronics assembly.

The introduction of this degree aligns with strong national job growth projections, as the Bureau of Labour Statistics anticipates an eight percent growth rate for aerospace engineering and operations technologists and technicians over the next decade.

According to DSC President Tom LoBasso, this is a faster-than-average outlook.

LoBasso noted that Daytona Beach is situated at the northern end of Florida’s Space Coast, establishing it as a fast-growing aerospace technology hub.

He highlighted the work of organisations like the Team Volusia Economic Development Corporation in attracting new businesses, such as French aircraft manufacturer Aura Aero, to the area.

Graduates of DSC’s new programme will be positioned to enter this high-demand field and contribute directly to the local and national aerospace industry.
