Microsoft Copilot AI becomes a permanent feature on LG smart TVs
LG TV running webOS platform recently received mandatory update that installed Microsoft Copilot AI application
Microsoft's Copilot AI chatbot has stirred considerable discussion, particularly following its integration into the Windows 11 operating system.
Yet, the reach of this AI integration is extending beyond personal computers and into smart televisions.
According to a post by Reddit user u/defjam16, their LG TV running the webOS platform recently received a mandatory update that installed the Microsoft Copilot AI application, offering no option for removal.
While consumers can choose to simply ignore the application, the broader trend toward increased AI integration in daily consumer electronics, including TVs, appears to be an unavoidable reality.
The specific utility of a Copilot AI app on a television, however, remains largely undefined for now.
Microsoft’s strategic push for Copilot on TV platforms is likely an effort to capture a larger segment of the burgeoning AI application market, positioning itself as the primary destination for general AI-powered queries.
Given that webOS is a Linux-based operating system utilized by LG, this development could also signify Microsoft's preparation for a wider deployment of the Copilot AI app for Linux users, whose market share on traditional PCs has recently reached approximately 3%.
Other smart TV operating systems may also soon receive a dedicated Microsoft Copilot AI application, raising concerns for users who prefer their televisions to remain free of constant AI processing functions.
