Trey Songz faces assault charge after NYC night club clash
Trey Songz appeared in Manhattan court after an alleged nightclub incident in NYC
R&B singer Trey Songz was arrested after allegedly punching a Manhattan nightclub employee during an early-morning dispute over closing time, prosecutors said Sunday.
The 41-year-old artist, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, was at Dramma Night Club in Times Square with his entourage when a staff member informed him the venue was closing around 4:25 a.m. on December 4.
Prosecutors claim the singer became “needlessly irate” and struck the worker in the face.
The Heart Attack singer appeared in Manhattan criminal court on Sunday, where he was arraigned on an assault charge related to the nightclub incident.
He also faces a second-degree criminal mischief charge stemming from an unrelated incident earlier that morning at Mira, a Manhattan restaurant and hookah lounge.
According to the complaint, the Bottoms Up crooner allegedly caused roughly $1,500 in damage, including broken hookahs, DJ equipment and sofas.
Wearing a black face mask, the Mr. Steal Your Girl singer was released on his own recognizance as the nightclub employee was granted an order of protection against Neverson, who prosecutors say is a regular at the venue.
Neverson declined to comment after the hearing, telling a photographer, “Have a good night, brother,” before leaving in a black SUV.
His attorney, Mitchell Schuster, said the incident began when the singer was confronted by individuals “who instigated a confrontation and attempted to surround him.”
“His security intervened to protect him and contain the situation, and an altercation occurred in the ensuring confusion,” Schuster said. “Despite being the target of the initial provocation, Trey was arrested.”
“Public figures are often treated as targets for instigation in pursuit of headlines or financial gain,” he added. “Trey is cooperating fully in both matters, and we are confident the full context and facts will come to light.”
Trey Songz, who has faced prior legal issues, is scheduled to return to court on February 18, 2026.
