Bronx rapper Kay Flock, whose real name is Kevin Perez, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for crimes linked to gang violence, including attempted murder and other charges.

Perez was charged in February 2023 over the fatal shooting of Hwascar Hernandez on December 16, 2021, in Manhattan.

While he was acquitted of first-degree murder in March, he was found guilty of multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon in aid of racketeering and illegal firearm discharge.

The rapper, whose hit track ‘Shake It’ featuring Cardi B dropped in April 2022, had been accused of using his music fame to intimidate rivals and fuel gang activity.

Prosecutors alleged Perez led a Bronx gang known as ‘Sev Side’ or ‘DOA,’ which carried out shootings against rival members and innocent bystanders.

“Kevin Perez used violence and fame to fuel fear and intimidation across the Bronx,” said United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton.

“Perez and his gang members carried out a string of shootings that struck both rival gang members and innocent bystanders,” the official added.

Investigators said the gang also supported itself through bank and wire fraud, funneling proceeds into Perez’s music career.
