A man has been stopped after police say he went on a cigarette-stealing spree through St Petersburg.

According to local police, 31-year-old Jamar Riley targeted several stores across the city, helping himself to hundreds of dollars’ worth of cigarettes. With a rather simple yet bold method, he jumped over the counter, grabbed the packs, and ran.

Police believe Riley carried out at least four burglaries in just one week. The first was reported on December 18 at a Circle K on 5th Avenue North. Officers say the pattern then became clear, reports WFLA.

On December 22, investigators say Riley struck again, stopping by a smoke shop on 4th Street South, followed by a nearby Family Dollar store. Apparently pleased with his earlier visit, Riley is accused of returning to the same Family Dollar on Christmas Eve for another go.

Detectives eventually identified Riley as the suspect behind the string of break-ins. Police arrested him on December 26, bringing the cigarette run to an abrupt end.

Jail records show Riley now faces multiple charges, including strong-armed robbery, attempted robbery and two counts of burglary.
