How Miley Cyrus turned her own rebuilding journey into powerful anthem for 'Avatar: Fire and Ash'
Miley Cyrus says 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' song reflects her own journey
Miley Cyrus opened up about the deeply personal inspiration behind Dream as One, the song she wrote for Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The Grammy winning artist said that the track reflects themes of resilience, love and unity that mirror her own life experiences.
“In the title alone, Fire and Ash, I've had my own experience with rebuilding from the ground up,” the Flowers singer said, referencing the Malibu home she lost in the 2018 Los Angeles wildfires.
“I felt after we experienced the fires this year,” she added, referring to more wildfires that devastated parts of LA in January 2025, “lately we've all had this idea of being there for each other and stepping in when your people need it.”
That sense of support extends beyond blood relatives, with the 33-year-old star explaining, “Not just your family, but your chosen family as well, and the resilience and courage that it takes to start again. And somehow finding that all you really need is each other.”
The Angles Like You hitmaker previously reflected on loss during a May screening of her visual album Something Beautiful, calling the destruction of her former home with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth “the biggest blessing I've ever had in my life,” adding that difficult moments ultimately “are only leading you into the light.”
Miley Cyrus said that power to rise again is at the heart of Avatar: Fire and Ash which continues the story of Jake and Neytiri as new threats emerge on Pandora.
For the unversed, the song plays during the end credits of James Cameron’s third Avatar film.
