Not long ago, a jailed man shocked viewers by going Facebook Live from inside a Memphis prison. He has now a warrant out for his arrest.

Derrick McDonald streamed the video in November while locked up at the Shelby County jail, using his phone to show what he described as ‘unlivable’ conditions behind bars.

The footage quickly raised eyebrows on why he had a phone inside the jail premises, News Nation reports.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office then launched an investigation into how McDonald managed to keep his mobile while in custody. McDonald’s answer was simple: no one took it from him during intake.

He spent four days in jail after being picked up on old driving warrants. McDonald, who is paralysed, described grim conditions and a lack of basic care in the video.

“Roaches, bugs, gnats, fruit flies, like black mold everywhere, water everywhere,” he said during the livestream. “Dirty clothes and stuff laying all out in the hallway.”

“I asked them several times to change me, and they were like, ‘No’,” he further said, adding that officers acted like they “really don’t care”.

McDonald was later released after he said the charges against him were dropped. But the story didn’t end there.

Court records show he faces a felony charge for possession of contraband in a penal facility, as per WREG.
