Man 'drowns' girlfriend’s cat after New Year argument

A New Year’s Day row in Tennessee took a grim turn when a man allegedly drowned his girlfriend’s cat after a heated argument, police say.

According to an arrest report, officers rushed to an apartment on Rossville Boulevard in Chattanooga following reports of a disorder.

When they arrived, they found a woman locked out of her own home. She told police she had just argued with her boyfriend, who had kicked her out, reports WTVC.

Officers knocked on the apartment door and were met by the boyfriend, identified as Jermaine Underwood.

Underwood confirmed the couple had argued, and police spoke to both sides. With tempers seemingly cooled, officers began to leave, as per report.

That calm didn’t last long.

As police walked away, the woman suddenly ran toward them screaming: “He killed my cat!”

The report added the officers rushed back inside the apartment where they found a cat drowned in the bathtub.

Underwood admitted to killing the animal, telling police he did it because the cat had scratched him and made him bleed, according to the report.

Now he faces charge of aggravated animal cruelty.
