Fake Orlando postman caught raiding mailboxes at dawn
Police also discovered a stolen bicycle from the man
A man who claimed to be a postman was caught raiding apartment mailboxes in the early hours of the morning has landed himself in jail.
Following reports of mail theft, Orlando officers responded to the Aria Beach apartment complex on South Semoran Boulevard on December 29, reports Fox 35 Orlando.
When police arrived, they spotted 39-year-old Sean Cronin crouched near several open mailboxes, pushing envelopes and packages into his hoodie, according to a police report.
Cronin told officers he was a postman, but police noted he was not wearing a postal uniform and had no mail truck. When police searched him, they uncovered more stolen mail hidden inside his hoodie and a blue backpack, along with a pair of pliers.
Police also discovered that the bicycle Cronin was riding had been reported stolen. During questioning, Cronin allegedly admitted he steals mail to sell the contents in exchange for drugs.
He was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail, where he now faces multiple charges including mail theft, petit theft, possession of burglary tools, and others.
The incident remains under investigation, according to Orlando police.
