Elon Musk has publicly commented on Nvidia’s newly unveiled Vera Rubin chips, revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 in Las Vegas.

Acknowledging the chip’s advanced design and strong performance claims, Musk predicted that the technology will take another nine months to become operational at scale.

Musk shared his views in response to a video posted by tech influencer Sawyer Merritt, which showcased the architecture and potential of the Rubin AI chips.

While praising the engineering behind the system, Musk cautioned that scaling the technology and ensuring smooth software performance would require more time.

Writing on X (formerly Twitter), the tech billionaire noted that the platform would need additional time before it can function reliably at scale.

He also expressed scepticism about real-world deployment challenges, particularly in autonomous driving.

For those unversed, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang introduced the Rubin platform as the successor to the Blackwell microarchitecture.

The new system is described as Nvidia’s first six-chip, end-to-end AI computing platform, developed using an extreme co-design approach.

This method tightly integrates GPUs, CPUs, networking hardware, and data processing units to boost overall performance.

According to Huang, the Rubin architecture can deliver up to five times the performance of current systems. The Rubin GPU is said to offer up to 50 petaflops of inference performance using NVFP4 precision.
