A Georgia teen has landed in hot water after allegedly deceiving her ex-boyfriend into paying thousands in child support for a child that wasn’t even hers.

According to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Brya Hardy was arrested on charges of theft by deception after authorities discovered the shocking scam, reports CBS news.

Investigators said the scheme came to light when Hardy’s ex-boyfriend reported concerns in December, saying he was pressured into paying for a child he later learned wasn’t biologically his.

Hardy reportedly approached the man, claiming he owed child support for a baby she said was his. Believing her, he made payments totaling more than $7,000 over several months.

Authorities launched an investigation and confirmed that while a baby existed, the child had no biological connection to either Hardy or the man.

Sheriff’s officials say the evidence showed Hardy had knowingly misled her ex for financial gain, which falls under theft by deception according to local law.

An arrest warrant was issued, and Hardy was taken into custody on December 31, 2025.
