Some Hollywood celebrities have faced backlash for their response to their LGBTQ+ children, with a few notable cases of disownment or strained relationships.

From Jackie Chan to Elon Musk, here’s a list of famous faces who have been reported to have struggled with accepting their LGBTQ+ children:

Jackie Chan

The legendary Hong Kong actor has a daughter named Etta Ng, who has spoken publicly about her father's absence and lack of support after she came out as lesbian.

Yes, Chan's support for his gay child, who came out of closet in 2017, is a bit complicated.

She's accused him of abandoning her and leaving her homeless due to his homophobia.

However, there are recent reports suggesting that Jackie Chan might be working to reconcile with Etta and allegedly provided financial support, including covering her rent in Canada and backing her design career.

It's worth mentioning here that Etta's mother, Elaine Ng, has expressed concerns about Etta's relationship and has spoken about her own struggles with accepting her daughter's sexuality.

R. Kelly

The R&B star's support for his transgender child, Jay, is a bit complicated.

Jay came out as transgender in 2014, and his mother, Drea Kelly, has been very supportive.

However, the 59-year-old former singer-songwriter does not seem like a fan.

In an interview, the I Believe I Can Fly hitmaker said, "You don't really wanna open it up with saying my daughter is becoming my son... Even when you see it with your own eyes, you gotta know that there's a back story."

Jay has stated that his father hasn't spoken to him since he came out, but R. Kelly has expressed love and support for his children, saying, "No matter what they are, who they are, they're still your kids. You love them, you gotta support them."

Elon Musk

The famous entrepreneur's support for his transgender child, Vivian Jenna Wilson, is almost zero.

Vivian came out as trans in 2020 and has since spoken publicly about her father's lack of support.

He has deadnamed her, using her birth name instead of her chosen name, Vivian.

Even during an interview once, she mentioned that Musk wasn't supportive of her transition, and she had to get parental consent from him to start hormone replacement therapy .

Musk has made some concerning statements about Vivian's transition, referring to it as being "killed by the woke mind virus" and claiming he was "tricked" into approving her treatment.

Vivian has also changed her name and severed ties with her father, stating she no longer wishes to be associated with him.

On the other hand, many celebrities have shown love and support for their LGBTQ+ children, including Robert De Niro and Charlize Theron.
