Grave robbery case uncovers skulls and mummified remains in Philadelphia

A shocking discovery in Philadelphia has resulted in an extended criminal inquiry, finding bones and skulls in the rear seat of a parked vehicle close to a deserted cemetery.

Authorities said that the officers were called to attention after a passerby spotted human remains in the vehicle and called the police.

Officers who came to the scene confirmed that there were bones and skulls and thus an immediate investigation was done. This discovery guided the police to an adjacent residential house where a search revealed a basement with more body parts of human beings.

Law enforcement agents claim that the remains have been held in custody of a man who has presently been charged of stealing about 100 sets of human remains during a long period. They think that a significant number of the remains were stolen out of cemeteries and burial ground, but the extent of the so-called thefts is yet to be identified.

The authorities said that the basement had well-preserved bones and skulls, evoking the question of the duration of the activity. Forensic team is currently making efforts to find the remains and establish their origin, which can be described as a time-consuming task because of the number of remains.

Police have charged the suspect with a number of crimes involving abuse of corpses, theft and other possible crimes. The authorities pointed out that there is no present indication that the remains are the ones related to recent murders.
