Elon Musk has announced that his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) will make its recommendation algorithm open source within the next seven days.

The move comes as the AI company faces growing scrutiny from regulators worldwide.

In a post on X, Musk noted that the release will include the code used to determine which posts and advertisements are shown to users.

He added that the company plans to repeat the process every four weeks, along with detailed developer notes explaining what has changed in each update.

Musk did not specify the reason behind the decision, but X has previously clashed with regulators over content moderation and transparency.

Opening the algorithm could help address concerns about how information is surfaced on the platform.

Some users have complained in recent months that posts from accounts they follow appear less frequently in their feeds.

In October, Musk acknowledged a “significant bug” in the platform’s “For You” algorithm and said a fix was underway.

X has also been working to integrate AI into its recommendation system. This effort involves xAI and its chatbot Grok, which Musk has said will play a growing role in shaping how content is ranked and displayed.
